How the Scheme Works
We provide a door-to-door service, so you are collected from home and brought back again.
-
Call us to apply
Call 07902 829478 to apply. The scheme is for people aged 60 and over who need transport to health appointments.
-
Have a short home visit
Two volunteers from our assessment team will visit you at home to ask about your mobility and general health, explain how the scheme works and leave you a leaflet.
-
Book a journey
When you need a lift, call one of the telephone coordinators on the numbers you were given at your assessment, giving as much notice as possible. They will arrange a volunteer driver for you.
-
Travel with a friendly driver
Your driver collects you from home, takes you to your appointment and brings you back. Most drivers will come in with you if you would like them to.
-
Pay the driver
Journeys cost 60p per mile, there and back, with a minimum of £3 per journey. You pay the driver in cash, and the driver will give you a receipt.
When we run
Monday to Friday, generally between 9am and 5pm, with some flexibility. Occasionally we can help at weekends, depending on the circumstances and on volunteers being available.
How we are funded
Because the scheme is run by around 40 volunteers, it is very cost-effective. Our running costs are about £8,000 to £10,000 a year.
We cover these through small grants, donations and fundraising, along with the mileage contribution paid by the people who use the service. Together, these help keep the scheme going for the long term, because we know how much people rely on it.
To arrange transport
If you have been successfully assessed and added to our list of service users, please contact one of the telephone coordinators on the numbers you were given at your assessment.
