How to Join the Scheme

The aims of the Benllech and District Good Turn Scheme are to provide transport to members who need to attend any appointments with medical services, or other journeys.

Who can join

In order to be accepted onto the scheme, it is necessary to meet certain criteria.

Firstly there is an age requirement: you need to be 60 or over. Then there is the requirement for transport to health services.

What journeys we cover

Health services include:

  • hospital appointments
  • dental appointments
  • chiropody appointments
  • optical appointments
  • collection of prescriptions

Other services may be available, but health appointments take priority. To apply, call us on the number at the bottom of this page.

Your assessment visit

Once you apply for membership you will be contacted by a volunteer from the assessment team. All our volunteers have been checked via the DBS scheme and carry ID.

Two people will call to see you to check on mobility issues and other information such as general health issues.

The assessors will tell you all about the Scheme. They will share information about who to contact for transport, costs etc, and will leave a leaflet which provides details of the system.

Information about your family and next of kin, for contact in an emergency, will be required. This information is confidential and is kept in a secure place.

Our leaflets are kindly printed free of charge by W.O. Jones, Printers, Llangefni.

Costs

Journeys incur a cost to the client. This covers the journey from your house and back.

60p per mile, there and back (minimum £3 per journey), paid to the driver in cash, with a receipt

The driver must give you a receipt, which is kept for audit purposes.

Good to know

Wheelchairs

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate wheelchairs. If one is required, it can be arranged to be available at the hospital, as long as you can get in and out of a car to get to the hospital.

Drivers accompanying you

Most drivers will accompany you to your appointment if you want this.

Blue badges

Blue badges are very helpful to the drivers.
